We’re coming out of hibernation for an online meetup on Wednesday 5 February 2025, 6-8pm. We’ll start with a talk about big data, then move on to lightning talks. Read on for instructions if you’d like to submit a lightning talk.

Data mining and accessible data platforms

Our own Bobby King will talk about how data mining and machine learning are transforming how organisations store and share data.

“As the amount of information we collect increases, designers need to think about how to give people access to data and understand it. I’ll explain some ways of making complex data accessible to staff, customers and citizens. I’ll also cover how to combine new techniques like AI prompts with established UCD approaches, including user research and content design.”

Lightning talks

Want to do a short talk for a friendly crowd? Maybe you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get into public speaking, or just fancy brushing up your skills and warming up your voice. If so, we invite you to offer a talk about anything relevant to the user centred design community, in one of the following formats:

  • a lightning talk of up to 5 mins, as formal or informal as you like, with or without slides.
  • OR a 20×20 PechaKucha, where you have 6mins to present a slide show of 20 images, each auto-advancing after 20 seconds. A fun format to try if you thrive on structure.

How to submit a talk

Email kat@uxglasgow.co.uk by 6pm on Monday 3 Feb with:

  • your talk title
  • your name as you’d like it shown on the in-event agenda
  • which format you’ll use:
    • lightning talk without slides
    • lightning talk with slides
    • PechaKucha
